Wellness

Establishing a baseline for health and spotting early disease symptoms are the main objectives of wellness checks for pets.

Wellness

How can you ensure that your pet will remain healthy from one year to the next? While we cannot guarantee perfect health for our patients, we can provide the necessary services to increase their odds. The most integral part of any pet’s healthcare regimen is pet wellness plans for cats and dogs in Big Rapids. Furthermore, annual checkups are the most effective way for us to detect illnesses in their early stages and treat them quickly. In addition, your pet receives essential preventative treatments to protect them against harmful diseases.

Our team is passionate about helping pets in and around the Big Rapids area stay healthy. We love your pets as much as we love our own, and are grateful to be trusted with their lifelong care.

WELLNESS PLANS FOR PUPPIES, KITTENS, ADULTS AND SENIORS

Since our pets age much faster than we do, it is important to commit to a yearly exam schedule. Therefore we can note health changes, suggest new or additional treatments to accommodate their age, and provide them with the best possible care.

Puppies and Kittens

Puppies and kittens need to be examined immediately following adoption, since they could have parasites or other illnesses. Their immune system is still developing, and they need vaccine boosters to help build that immunity. During a puppy and kitten care visit, we dispense a free dose of parasite prevention and send owners home with important information about vaccinations guidelines, nutrition, spay and neuter, housebreaking, and more.

With regular checkups and recommended treatments, your puppy or kitten can grow and enjoy a normal, happy life.

Adult Dogs and Cats

Once your pet is fully grown and has an established wellness routine, it is necessary to maintain that routine to keep them healthy. Wellness visits generally include a nose-to-tail exam, core vaccines, fecal and heartworm testing, and recommendations for year-round parasite prevention. Committing to your pet’s wellness is important, since any lapse in their regimen could leave them vulnerable to disease.

Senior Pets

Our veterinarians respect every pet as an individual with their own specific set of needs. As they age, pets can develop conditions that reduce their quality of life. In cases like these, your pet may need to see their veterinarian semi-annually for an exam and diagnostics. Pain management, continued mobility and overall well-being are our primary goals when treating senior cats and dogs.

Like humans, many senior pets need medications, supplements and other therapies to keep them comfortable in their golden years.

Parasite Prevention

Flea, tick and heartworm preventatives offer additional disease protection for your pet. They can repel and kill parasites within hours, keeping both your pet (and your home) free of infestations. Ticks and mosquitoes are especially dangerous; ticks spread Lyme disease and ehrlichiosis, and mosquitoes can transmit heartworm disease. We recommend that all cats and dogs, both indoor and outdoor, be kept on parasite preventatives throughout the year.
